Eight Occupants Including a Baby Died as Three Vehi
cles Got Involved in a Fatal Accident
Along B48 Road
The Police are investigating a case of a Culpable H
omicide after three vehicles got involved in a fata
l
accident along B48 road along the Driefontein to Ri
etpan, at about 16:30 yesterday.
The accident involves a Toyota Fortuner, a Toyota V
enture, and an Isuzu LDV Double Cap. It is
alleged that a woman driver of a Fortuner was overt
aking at a solid lane, a barrier line, where there
was oncoming traffic. Upon realising that she will
be unable to complete her action, she then
attempted to swerve back to her lane but in the pro
cess, unfortunately hit a Toyota Venture. The
driver of the Toyota Venture then lost control of t
he car, the vehicle span around and collided head-o
n
with an Isuzu LDV.
Five males, two females and a baby died en route to
the hospital, i.e. all occupants, four in the
Venture and four from the Isuzu. The eight include
two school children who are reported to be
attending school at Nietverdiend Laerskool. Two occ
upants of a Venture are yet to be positively
identified.
Meanwhile, the driver of a Fortuner and four other
passengers in Venture survived with minor to
serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital of
which one was transferred to Mahikeng Provincial
Hospital.
Families of all victims have been contacted.
The MEC for the Department of Community Safety and
Transport Management, Dr. Mokgantshang
Motlhabane, passes a message of condolences to the
families of the bereaved as well as wished a
speedy recovery to those injured. In the same breat
h, the MEC sends a stern warning to motorists
who continue to disobey the road rules with impunit
y.
"We are appealing to motorists to always drive safe
ly, reduce speed, avoid reckless overtaking, share
the roads wisely and ensure that vehicles are in go
od working conditions", pleaded MEC, Dr.
Motlhabane.
Motorists are urged to always abide by the traffic
regulations and obey all road signs. Corporation wi
